New 30D Lightroom & ACR Preset Available.

I have a set of presets for Lightroom 1.1 and ACR 4.1 that will IMHO improve on the default color rendering from Adobe.

To obtain the beta please visit: http://www.huelight.com (external link) to download.

I look forward to your comments.

How we're these done? Were they done using a gretag macbeth color checker/chart?

I used the color chart and the ACR Color script created by the folks over at chromaholics.net (or is it .com) and then use the 'proper' color as develop presets in lightroom.... the color rendering is fantastic!

From the author's website:

Installation ACR 4.1

To install in ACR, Copy the .xmp to your Photoshop 'Settings' folder and select the Olycoly preset in ACR under the 'Presets' tab.

The settings folder is located as follows:-

Windows Vista - /AppData/Roaming/Adobe/CameraRaw/Settings
OSX - /Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/Settings

Installation Lightroom V1.1

To install in Lightroom, Switch to the Develop Module, right-click on User Presets and select the import option. Then select the Olycoly .lrtemplate preset and import!

The presets are used as 'develop presets". In lightroom, as you can use develop presets like 'old photo, or aged photo" to apply that look to a photo - you can also apply user made presets such as "30D correct color" that will adjust the color based on parameters set by the user when they created the develop preset in the first place.

For instance....I photographed a gretag macbeth color checker chart and then ran the ACR Script created by chromaholics.net - when all was said and done, the script gave me the correct Calibration numbers (blue hue, blue tint, green hue, green tint, red hue and red tint)....I then input these numbers into lightroom via the Calibration tab (at the bottom of the develop module) and saved this as a preset "30D Daylight Calibration"

Now upon import, I can apply this 30D Daylight calibration preset and I have perfectly correct color before I even touch a slider in Lightroom! Hope this helps :D

Thanks for the explanation xmacvicar, but what would you mean by 'perfectly correct color'? Is what you're trying to do like 'match color' in photoshop to get a particular kind of look?

By correct color...I mean perfect color rendition as the scene was meant to be seen....sometimes camera sensor's show more red, or for instance, have a different hue of blue than what is actually being photographed. I shot a girl in a beautiful red color top once, and the red color was seen 'different' by the camera. By calibrating the colors with a color checker chart, then your camera will perfectly (or as close to perfect as possible) replicate the color that is being photographed.

Hope that makes sense! lol

It would be nice if we could get ACR presets that mimic DPP color renditions - i.e. reds that weren't orange.
Anyone tried the presets above?

Alternatively, anyone know of where other ACR - 30D presets maybe viewed? I just reread the part in Bruce Fraser's ACR book about calibrating ACR for one's camera. Holy Headache Batman - that is a rather involved process fraught with error. No wonder I decided to skip doing that.

Surely there are other kind souls who have made their Canon 30D ACR presets available for others...a place where people compare and analyze their preset results. Anyone know if there is a website of these Canon 30D ACR callibration results? I know they won't be exact callibration for my 30D but surely they'll be better starting points for digital photo production than the current initial RAW conversion.

Installation ACR 4.1

To install in ACR, Copy the .xmp to your Photoshop 'Settings' folder and select the Olycoly preset in ACR under the 'Presets' tab.

The settings folder is located as follows:-

Windows Vista - /AppData/Roaming/Adobe/CameraRaw/Settings
OSX - /Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/Settings

What about XP Pro?
I can't locate these files

Has anyone used these presets with ACR 4.1 on Windows XP Pro?

Anyone know how to install these presets in XP Pro?

The website has instructions for OSX and Vista
from http://huelight.com/page3/page3.html (external link) :

"To install in ACR, Copy the .xmp to your Photoshop 'Settings' folder and select the Olycoly preset in ACR under the 'Presets' tab.

The settings folder is located as follows:-

Windows Vista - /AppData/Roaming/Adobe/CameraRaw/Settings
OSX - /Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/Settings "

I can't find " AppData/Roaming/Adobe/CameraRaw/Settings " anywhere in XP.

Furthermore, when I unzipped the downloaded file there are TWO .xmp files. Which of the 2 do I copy?
