This Grayling butterfly (Hipparchia semele) was taken amongst the dunes on the foreshore of the Port Talbot deep water harbour. Caught it with it's proboscis extended whilst taking a drink of nectar.

There's a clue that it's not from this summer - note the blue sky!

Taken on a G3 with a +4 filter; although I'm won over onto SLR's, I love the fold out live view screen and still use the camera.

Ray

hard to believe they left the fold out viewer on the G7. Good angle, always like sky macros.

Nice catch Ray, how close were you to the butterfly?

I'm still mulling over whether to go for a dSLR, but if I do I shall keep my S3 for shots just like this. The flip-out screen could be a bit brighter in sunlight, but it's still brilliant for odd angles. Nice one Ray.

Thanks everyone.
Alby, the camera was about a foot away and held at arms length. This makes for a more stealthy approach than having my big head behind my SLR trying to get close.

I agree with Racketman and cannot believe that Canon haven't fitted a fold out screen to the G7.
