the B400 should be plenty. I got the B800 because I *might* someday use it full power, and the price difference is too small to hurt my wallet.

Get at least the 800s if not 1600. Once the light is bounced into an umbrella, off a wall or ceiling or through a softbox the light is all sucked up. It's easier to lower the power but you can not up the power if there is no where to go.

If money is tight get one 1600 and two 800s. Use the 1600 for the main light and the 800s for hair light and background light.
