Sometimes when i use my camera in bright sun, parts of the screen go red (where it should be white) eg clouds. The camera also stores the image with this fault. After a time all goes back to normal.
Anybody any ideas?

Sounds like a defective CCD. The red channel does not seem to be saving the full red information, thus leaving a red tone instead of white... Keep several images on the card that came with the camera, and take it back (since it'll be working fine when you take the camera back, the card will show what you mean.)
