So i was trying to expand my post processing and decided to plunge into the shadow/highlight tool. Which image do you like better. The first one is my normal workflow and the second i used the shadow/highlight tool also. Please also offer any opinions on what else i could have done, either forgetting the shadow/highlight tool altogether or adjusting that or anything at all please. Thanks.

#1 has more detail (in the bricks) but #2 has a better sky. I'd probably have to clone #2's sky onto #1

Yes, this is what S/H does ... it removes contrast from 3/4 tones. You need to use it with caution.

Much better results are achieved by selective enhancement.

In this one, I separated the building from the sky, and was able to get some great contrast.

Of course, it's a more time-consuming way of doing things!

Hello troyer16;

Try selecting ONLY the sky, and then apply Shadows/Highlights...

Set Shadows to 0 and Highlights to somewhere between 50 & 75 dependant o how you like the result...

Then you'll bring back much more detail into the sky...

Also, consider shooting RAW (if you don't already do so...). You'll be able to manage these high-contrast images much better by doing so...

Cheers;

Lee
