the irony in all of this is that my client is the Montreal international Just For Laughs festival...a friggin' comedy festival. I personally don't find any of this funny...

Turn memory allocated down to 50%. You haven't left enough room for the OS and apps to run. You have to restart photoshop for the change to take effect. It might not solve the problem but it's something that needs to be done anyway.

Tim has made the most valid point abou the RAM allocation. When I first got PS I read up about optimisation and on the Adobe site there was an article that use max 65% (I think I have had mine set 55% for ages & I have 2GB installed) since then this has been the most "commonly" given advice to check and in most instances AFAIK this has solved a whole raft of problems, oh and reduce the cache levels 4 as that also can help.

As for both computers doing the same, if you have effectively duped the settings then the above I hope is your answer.

Not to forget to restart PS for the changes to take effect and flush any cache files and delete any temp files as previously noted.

Hope you get it sorted OK :)

But does it still happen if you reduce the RAM allocation (and cache) as advised?

Best of luck :D

I don't mean to insult your intelligence, we're just all scraping for answers ...

Is it possible that you're trying to crop waaaaaay too big? I mean, have you accidentally set your crop options to 600x400 inches, when you meant pixels, for example.

That's a really good bit of lateral thinking Damo77. I've done that before. Sat there wondering why the crop was taking so long to process and then wham! a massive image appears on screen  Hope that is the problem here.

Well, if there's a silly mistake to be made, I've made it! The other good one is choosing Pixels Per Centimetre instead of Pixels Per Inch ...

That would be my guess... Been there, done that ;)
