Hi all,

I've had my 17-55mm lense for about 2 months now (and I love it!!). However, when I was using it yesterday I encountered something that I was concerned about, and I'd like to tap into your collective experience about prior to sending the lens to Canon for repair/adjustment.

I was shooting some images of a table my brother in law had designed and made. When I was shooting the top of the table (looking straight down on it), I noticed that the lens wouldn't hold the zoom I had selected. Instead, it would zoom in because of the position and (presumably) the weight of the lens hood.

I hadn't ever noticed this before and was wondering whether this is something that shouldn't be happening. I kind of assume it shouldn't, but wanted to see if I'm worrying about nothing...

Thanks for your help with this!!

Greg

ken rockwell says his lens started to exhibit zoom creep with age, so maybe its normal?

I've noticed that my 17-55 is now doing this. I've had it for several months, and it never did it. I'm guessing that the lens loosens up with use over time. It only seems to do it with the lens hood on.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who's experiencing this! It's not a big deal, but I just wanted to make sure it wasn't some kind of defect...
