OK, you are probably thinking false pretenses, but I am proud that I got this puppy flowering. In the past, I have killed a number of discocactus. They like more water than I typically gave them. But this summer has been our rainiest, so it is flowering. Each flower lasts through the night and has a delightful scent.

Admittedly, my track record regarding my night blooming cacti has been far less than stellar. Despite good intentions, I somehow found myself prostrate and snoring in front of the tube. When I awoke, I dragged my sorry butt to bed. Later I woke up and realized that I had not taken a disco pic. I got dressed, pulled out my flashes, put on the diffusers, did a stack and went back to bed. Hope you enjoy.

Irwin

I love this picture. However, try converting it to B&W. It would be so much more powerful!

Thankyou Bill. Luckily, I have never made it through the night without waking up to check out the bathroom.

Thank you mkmagic. I like the idea of this image as a B & W print I think I will play with this image.

Disco Queen, a beauty. You better get a video set up to film through the night, one frame every 10mins.

Thank you Brian. I appreciate your comments and thoughts.

It is very highly scented, one of the very nicest. I take it you've grown a disco. A truly lovely aroma.

I just did a little research on line about this plant but have not as yet pulled the books. Endangered in the wild, discos are native to high rainfall area, most typically on the edges of tropical forests. At first glance high rainfall and cacti clash as an incongruous word combination. But discos grow on rock outcroppings, where presumably the water run-off is quick and the retention minimal.

Take care.

Irwin

Unfortunately this video will always end the same way as that scene in Cinderella. At daybreak, the bloom will close-up and wilt--right about the time Cinderella's coach becomes a pumpkin.

Thanks for taking the time for your playful comments. Take care.
