Since everyone seems to be talking about Ritz Camera these days, I figured I'll ask this question.

Anyone use their ESP? It covers many things including your own mistakes in dropping your camera. Do they just replace it in store? Or do they try to send it out to repair? Just curious to see what ppl's experience w/ their ESP has been.

Thanks!

Dizzy

They send it out and you lose w/e you had for who knows how long...

It's nice but sucks at the sametime. I check in a guy's 28-135 IS a little after i started working there and a week before i quit it had just returned. That was like, 2 months i think was the time. It;s not bad, but can suck with time.

I'll tell you what I tell all my customers in the same fashion.

"Just to let you know we have an Extended Service Policy that covers basically anything and everything besides fire, theft, and loss. If you drop it, you break it, if you throw it against the wall... We'll take care of it as long as most the peices are there and you still have the serial number. If we can't fix it then we'll replace it!... I do have to warn you, though, that our service facility usually takes up to 12 WEEKS(I emphasize this) because of the fact that we only have one facility through-out our region"

Something like that. I don't work there no more.

I use to manage a Ritz. In theory, it's nice.
In practice, it's not good. Equipment would be gone for months at a time. Our loaner camera was a old Olympus Stylus :|

What if it came into the store in a million pieces? Would they still send it out first? Or just replace it on the spot?

I don't think they can replace it on the spot without corporate's go ahead. They'd order you one though I'm sure. Key thing is, it needs he serial number intact or legible.

As a Ritz employee, I've only been allowed to replace a camera on the spot once. The qualifications? Completely clean, no impact/water damage, fresh batteries in the camera, just wouldn't power on. More importantly, the camera was in stock.

Of course, I had one I couldn't replace on the spot earlier this week. The camera was dropped in water (it was actually still spilling water and sand on the counter) with definite impact damage on the screen. Also, we didn't have it in stock.

In theory, we have a valid reason for this. What keeps you from intentionally destroying your camera at the end of the warranty (I'm not referring to any professional photographers, because most wouldn't do this) just to get a new one?
