I have noticed on several threads that some of you say to use XP and not Vista. I would like to know why? I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to computer stuff. I have several computers that I use and one of them is Vista and I have not noticed any difference.

Vista's new and potentially buggy, XP works well, easy choice.

No choice for me. XP32 only. I run with Lightroom and CS2, and NEITHER are certified or supported on Vista. In fact, I just upgraded to XP in september. It's always a good idea to stay a step behind in the OS game because that way, you are always working on a solid, reliable, and secure platform.

I just bought a new laptop, and it came with vista. The first thing I did was format the hard drive and put XP on.

I have CS2 on the XP and CS3 on the Vista. I honestly have not had any problems with the Vista, is there something that may happen that I should be aware of? I have never noticed any differences.

I myself will stick to XP for awhile. If you have any older hardware, they may not work with Vista because there aren't any drivers for them. Even if the drivers are available, they will not be as refined as their XP counterparts.

well, i have been using vista since the day it came out and i have had NO problems with the system, it works with everything i use with NO problems, i feel people are afraid of vista because of the issues xp had early on, but that was what 8 years ago,

in actuallity, its MUCH easier to use Vista, its search capabilities, backup options, its security, is simply amazing,

We will not move from XP Pro to Vista until forced to or until SP1 is released.

Just sent a new Dell back that had vista loaded on it. The only thing that was worse than vista, was Dell's customer service. Just bought an iMac, turns out the dell fiasco was a blessing in disguise. See ya Dell and Microsoft. The Mac runs circles around the dell/vista machine. If you go with vista, be prepared to spend a day in hell trying to get all the drivers for your printers, etc. to work.

Not me. I plugged in my Canon printer, Canon scanner, Canon camera, usb drives, PVR, etc with no issues.

Let's not let this turn in to a mac Fanboy love in. It's a question of XP or Vista, not mac.

LOL

I held onto Win2000Pro as long as I could because it was bulletproof. It beat the pants off Win98 (which I couldn't get rid of fast enough).

I started to run into compatibility problems with some programs (such as Lightroom requiring XP).

So now I am on XP Pro.

I wasn't too apprehensive about it, I'm of the same philosophy as Lloyd (picturecrazy); grab a mature technology.

The only time I have used Vista is 'in the store' as well as on a friends laptop. While all the eye candy is nice we noticed that it really eats up memory. The laptop, specifically, had 2gb ram with Core 2 chip.

It really turned me off to it and if Vista won't 'solve' its resource hogging my next comp will most likely be a Mac.

Why should I have to turn off all the eye candy, features, etc to reclaim my speed/responsiveness?

.
