Okay, so I'm thinking of going to shoot in raw but I can't figure out how to open my images in photoshop both versions I have. I just got CS2 and I'm pissed that I can't figure this out. The only program I have that shows the images is zoombrowser ex that I think came with the camera. Help!

you should have got a cd with your cameras which has Digital Photo Professional which is what I prefer to the CS2.

You will have to have at least ACR version 3.6 in order to see XTi's raw. Go here (external link) and update your ACR if you have not done that already.

Canon's Digital Photo Professional that comes with the camera is a good RAW program too.

You mean to tell me that Photoshop won't open raw? Lightroom?

It will process RAW, just not right out of the box. PSCS2 came out long before the XTi, so the plug-ins for the ACR aren't up to date. Go to Adobe's site and download the latest ACR plug-in for your version/camera model.

search the forum for lightroom, it's a raw handler/processor/manager. Only been out as retail version since March i think. No doubt someone will correct me! Does what ACR/Bridge does and some CS2 functions and adobe album 3.2, and a whole lot more i think

Tim -

many thanks for your recommended books in your sig. I'm VERY new to camera RAW (I still haven't shot yet it in it), and decided to pick up the camera RAW book you recommended. I do have CS2 - haven't used bridge all that much yet. I figured to do some reading first before trying in a couple of weeks at a baseball tournament. I read a little about RAW, still seems like a mystery to me.

RAW's not hard once you understand what's going on. That book helps a lot, even if you don't use ACR.

RAW isn't hard, but for some reason, it sounds hard. I was taught to PP with JPEG files so the thought of changing to RAW was daunting. Now I only process the RAW files and keep the original small JPEGs just to see the in the browser.
