What is the best free (or close) macro solution?
in terms of magnification and in term of quality
reversing the lens ? moving the lens forward ? other ?

Depends on what lenses you actually have. Suspect the image quality would be good from any of the methods- probably best if you used a prime lens around 50mm with a set of ext tubes.
