Hiya All,

I nearly forgot that I had these, thanks to the bad weather I was having a look see what I'd got left to post

I've been watching the antics of these Wasps making a home in my neighbours wall at first they excavated loadsa soil & whilst some were digging & mining others were busy taking in leaf matter & Potato Hoppers, well they've now started moving in lumps of Granite ! weird huh

In #1 you can clearly see it's a grain of granite & the size of it just goes to show how strong those Wasps are, it's amazing they can even fly with a payload like that

Cheers for now
Mark

I think they mutilate other insects chew them up and roll them into a ball Mark - then carry it off to there nest .

Lovely series :) ...

Excellent shots Mark. Think I'd be a little nervous being that close to a nest...Mind you, they look fairly preoccupied.

Hiya Gordon, Dreamline, Brian,

Many thanks for your kind words & comments,

Gordon,
I did wonder what it was that they were carrying in but I collected some of these Grains to see what they were & they're definately Granite the only insects these Wasps seem to be interested in are the vast amounts of Potato Leaf Hoppers I have on my Solanum Hedge, this is what I find so weird, why having gone to all that trouble to remove so much soil would they they start collecting Grains Of Granite.

Dreamline,
I'm very lucky I guess as Wasps don't worry me the only insect that seems to have a go at me are damn Horse Flies

Brian,
Your comments are very much appreciated especially comming from a such a Master of Macro :D

Cheers for now
Mark

WOW! that is out of this world- I struggle to get a photo of a stationary wasp let alone one in flight lol
Very well done- I think most wasps even chew up bits of wood and use it like a plaster; they've been enjoying our patio furniture; well someone should enjoy it this summer lol

Hiya Richard,

Many thanks for your kind words & comments, long time no see ?

There's another Wasps nest nearby but I'm damned if I can find it I have a feeling that it's in the Vicars roof space next door but one as they seem to be flying off in that direction, now those Wasps are stripping the weathered surface of the Fence Panels in my garden, the Wasps that I've been shooting that are making their nest in the wall don't seem to be taking in any 'Pulp' I've spent ages just sat by the nests entrance watching them, I've never seen this sort of action by Wasps before, I'd love to remove a few of the stones from the wall to have a look see but I don't think my neighbour would be to happy at that .

Cheers for now
Mark

the granite will be for the fancy floor - nice and cool in summer, cold in winter but they are nearly all dead then so what the heck.
These are very sharp flight shots even if they are slowing down on entry, well done.
