I'm shopping for a new lens.... and came across this for the 70-200 f/4 L:

http://www.amazon.com …oom-Cameras/dp/B000053HH5 (external link)

Is this price right - it seems to be much higher everywhere else I've looked. I feel like I'm missing something.

Is there anything wrong with this one?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Erin

You may be looking at the IS version elsewhere--this is the non-IS version. The IS version probably runs about $1000.

Don't confuse the IS/non IS or the F4 with the 2.8

here is a link to what otehrs are selling it for.

Also, use this site to make sure the place you're buying from is legit (search name of store in right hand corner).

Thanks - that's is definitely the case - I knew I was missing something. I have been looking and shopping for so long my head is spinning.

I guess now the big question is "is it worth it"? Hmmm.... any thoughs out there from anyone?

Any variation of the Canon 70-200 L is awesome--pick which ones fits your needs and budget best and go for it!

MeNiS, the link you provided was for the non IS lens - so you would skip the IS? I don't own a lens with IS yet, so I don't really know what I'm missing.... I'm kind of leaning toward saving the $$$, but not sure. Man, this is enough to drive a person crazy. !

Thanks!

I have the f4 and the 2.8 IS versions and they both are excellent. Research is so important before spending the many dollars for such great lenses. But buy what you need, the f4 is great outdoors for anything from portraits to landscapes. The 2.8 IS is amazing indoors and out for just about everything. The price is 2x + for the 2.8 IS. The f4 IS is a lens everyone is excited about and is a great compromise, but still, not great for indoor sports. So, do your research.

^ i linked you to the non-IS since that's the same lens in your amazon link.

here is the 4 different 70-200 L lens:

IS or non-IS, that will be up to you and how much $$$ you're willing to spend. i got my non-IS f4L before the IS version came out. IS would be nice to have, but i've been happy with my non-IS so far. outdoors, i get fantastic results. indoors with good lighting, you can get great shots too.

Yeah, I hear you -- I was going crazy debating between the 70-200 non-IS, IS and 70-300 IS.

The IS version of the 70-200 gives you 4 extra stops for handheld shots. On a 1.6x crop body, that means that you could shoot at 200mm with a shutter speed as slow as 1/20sec (YMMV). Look at all the money you'll save on a tripod. ;)
