1.6 v 1.3 FOV

subject a 12" figure 15" from front of lens. Both Sigma 150macro, ISO 800, f5, AF, tripod/cable release one shot Av mode. USM 180/0.3/0, levels adjusted slightly. No processing in RAW. Interesting that 20D gave slightly brighter (I would say overexposed original image despite 1/6 v 1/5 sec exposure).

Firstly sorry to hear your Sciatica flared up thought you were a bit on the quiet side hope things improve very shortly !!

I'm no good on the technical side of things but that Mk3 shot looks far far better all round, both good shots though

Thanks for that, I have a 20D and am upgrading to a 1D Mark III at Christmas, this is very informative

where the 1.6 crop cameras will score is if you dont fill the frame with the subject using the 1.3 and start cropping too much. My initial experiments suggest 100%crops from same sized area of image will not be as sharp. Not sure if this is noticeable here as it is more close up than macro but here is crop of 1.3 sensor to match 1.6:

that'll be a nice christmas stockingfiller! Just insured mine as an individual item on my Sainsburys house insurance, premium only went up £20 which is better than any camera insurance quote I could find - and I can get it nicked anywhere in the world!

Hmmm, looks as if my 100-400L will lose out a bit, I've gotten quite used to the great range
