Rapid Dual metering with a D60?

I was wondering if anyone knows if what I am trying to do is possible (programmable) with the D60.

Background: I currently enjoy making composite photographs through the method of 1) metering in one area (highlights for example), 2) recompose in other area (shadows), 3) take the picture with the first (highlights) meter value, 4) take the same picture with the re-metered (shadow) value, then 5) composite in Photoshop. All this needs to be done with a tripod.

My question is: can this same technique be done without a tripod through the continuous shooting mode? For example, the first shot will use the meter value from the AE lock, and the second shot will automatically be re-metered without having to release my finger, or wait for the first AE value to clear out. The main goal I am trying to achieve is minimizing the amount of time between the shots yielding less opportunity for the camera to move in between shots. I know AEB does something similar to what I am trying to do (and is a quick way to get it done in terms of capturing maximum data upfront), but I would like to do the metering myself.

By default, if I use AE lock with continous shooting, the second (and third) shots will be the same metered value unless I wait 4 seconds or re-push the AE lock after recomposing.

Why not use manual mode and take e.g. 10 shots with different shutter speeds? Find out the dynamic range using spot metering, find middle exposure and go up and down from there.

Having camera to measure is not very reliable way if you need to combine shots. Also, you can keep the camera in same position all the time.

You can do something like this with bracketing (taking
pictures with -1 0 +1 exposure comp.), but if you don't
want to have a lot of work when merging them in PS
you still need a tripod, 3fps is too slow to take identical
framed pictures.
