Hey guys,

I've just changed my system over to Mac.

Can you recommend any good handling / editing software for the Mac - I don't do a lot of complicated editing, but I would appreciate viewing histograms and exposure details etc. and the free iPhoto software doesn't accomodate that.

I use an EOS 30D for mainly nature / wildlife photos.

Cheers for your help,

John.

Doesn't the 30D come with PS Elements? If so, that'll be a good start.

Download a trial of Aperture. I love it for photo organization/editing/everything.

Digital photo professional for the Mac comes with the 30D and the latest version can be had at www.usa.canon.com (external link) after loading the original software. It processes RAW files and many on this forum prefer it to Adobe Lightroom and Aperture.

photoshop elements, for under $100.

Gimp for free. The Gimp is a little more complex to use, and missing a few advanced features, but can do whatever I want. I switched to photoshop mostly so I could benefit from the expertise of others. To get a copy of the Gimp, click >>>here<<< (external link). You also need to install X11, which is on the Tiger install disc or you can download it from www.apple.com (external link)

iPhoto will show you exposure details. select the photo you want, and right-click (or control-key click) then select "show info"

iPhoto will show you histograms. select the photo you want, go to full-screen edit mode, and click the little "adjustment" icon on the bottom.
