I've read lots of the old posts on this tablet sizes and thought the 6x8 Intuous was going to be the right size. I called Wacom for a sanity check before purchasing and they suggested not buying the 6x8 and going with either the 4x6 or 6x11 because I have a wide screen.

Desk space isn't an issue and I will be using this strictly for photo editing and no drawing. (I've never progressed past stick figures).

For my intended use, which is the right tablet to purchase?

I've used multiple Wacom's and to tell you the truth I find my current 6x8 intuous a little on the large size. I use a 24 inch widescreen. I have my current 6x8 mapped (usable area) a little smaller and in a widescreen pattern so I don't have as much hand movement.

If you were doing it again would you go with the 4x6 then?

Gontran- Maybe if they come out with a larger model; I just can see going backwards from a 24" ;)

Well - I guess it's all relative. The 6x8 kinda has a big footprint on the desk. I think if your a lefty then the right side controls would be very handy. I'm a righty and disabled my right side controls using only the left side.

In actual use because I edit a lot of images at a time I found my arm getting tired from all the side to side movements that why I remapped the usable area. I think if your working on only a few images then the larger workable size would be very useful.

If you a costco member make sure to check out their pricing - I found they had the best pricing when I upgraded. Either way the Wacom's hold their value and if your get the wrong one for you - you won't lose a lot of money.

I also do not use their mouse - but if you do then the larger size is probally best.

Thanks, you are right- big savings with Costco v. B&H. $299 v. $369 for the 6x11 model
$269 v. $299 for the 6x8 model
Costco doesn't carry the 4x6 v. $229 for the 4x6 model

I'm still confused as to the size. I can relate to your arm getting tired using a bigger tablet, but then I'm not sure I understand why you are saying a larger workable size would be useful if I'm not going to be working on a lot of images at one time. (I think I'm going to fall into this category).

Are you suggesting the 6x11 then? What is the advantage/disadvantage of using the Wacom mouse v. the Apple's wireless mouse?

I am a Costco member so I'll be sure to compare their price to B&H before purchasing.

Let my try to explain it this way - let's say I have 400 raw images from a shoot that I'm editing. I use ACR to crop each and then do a batch process to get the jpeg ready for online use. So for repetitive tasks the small workable area really speed up the edits.

But when I'm editing for touchups at 200plus zoom the larger size comes in handy.

Get the 6x8 at costco and don't look back. IMPO the 6x11 is just too large.

When i got my 24in Mac i ended up getting the 4x6, and am very pleased with it,i think the 4x6 is a excellent choice for doing photos, and glad that i didn't get a larger size one, i had a 6x8 tablet for my old pc but i found the working area to large and it ended up getting stored away

I actually just placed an order for a Intuos3 4x6. The mousepen 6x8 is great but I found myself probably using 25%ish of the real estate 80-90% of the time. The 4x6 will hopefully be a better fit for my widescreen.

I purchased my intuous 3 4x6 just over a year ago for $199 at Circuit City. Not sure if they still have that deal, though...

Hi Rich,

noticed you have a 24" iMac, was curious what ( if any ) monitor calibration you used. That's one bright screen even with he brightness turned all the way down. Did you get your prints to match your screen?

thanx in advance,

troy
