I purchased Nick's (Nick_C) Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC MACRO last friday, after I read the review he wrote on the lens. He is way over at England, and I'm in Canada. Magically, it arrived yesterday, Wednesday. Nick really is a stand-up guy. He scheduled the pick up on Monday morning, and after two hours fighting with the paper work, the lens was shipped out that afternoon. That's how I got it so fast. Great communication, fast shipping, reasonable price, I would highly recommend him for any other potential buyers. He still has a 350D for sale. I have done a lot of online shopping, and this is by far the best experience.

Back to the lens. Pretty amazing for the price, really. It's sharp, the color is very good, the blur is milky smooth/pleasant and the macro is just wonderful. the focal range works great as a walkaround lens.

I love the color and the sharpness of this photo, but somehow the bokeh on the right hand side isn't so good

excellent sharpness and detail. even it's hand held at 70mm, 1/40, wide open.

that's it for now. thanks for looking. I'm so happy that I bought this lens. it really is worth every penny. I would highly recommend it to everyone who owns a 1.6 crop body and wants a walk around lens.

oh, please comment on the pics if you want, so that I can improve. i can take any critical words, just say it! :p

Not much to say really, except I'm absolutely in total agreement with you.
Everyday I use my Siggie I think to myself what a wonderful gem of a lens it is.

Think you'll grow to love it even more over time :-)!

Thanks for your kind words, im glad your happy with it.

I really do miss the macro side of the 17-70, so much so that I think I will have to try & get a macro lens soon, the 24-105L only manages half as close as the 17-70.

These are a few of the shots I took with the 17-70, all handheld, the bee is a crop but the detail captured is very nice.

I thought it was a fantastic lens, I would not have sold it but its only for 1.6x bodies, a real shame its not full frame compatible as it would have been a very wide lens at 17mm on FF.

Anyway, I hope you have a lot of fun taking pictures with the 17-70! its a very sharp lens, infact I see no difference between the 17-70 & my 24-105L, so you could say that the 17-70 has L like glass :p,

Nick :-)
