I've only just joined the digital revolution with a 30D. By the time I finished loading all the attached software I seem to have loads of stuff I'm never likely to use.

I was about to uninstall as much as I could, but then I got cautious and decided to ask for advise first.

Heres the full list:

CameraWindow
CANON iMAGE GATEWAY Task
EOS-1D Mark 11N WIA Driver
EOS-1Ds Mark 11 WIA Driver
EOS 5D WIA Driver
EOS Kiss_N REBEL_XT 350D WIA Driver
EOS Utility 2.0.2
Photostitch
RAW Image Task
Zoombrowser EX
DPP 3.0.2

Now some of that makes sense even to me. DPP, Photostitch & presumably one of the drivers (5D?) but I need serious advise with the rest. Anything I can dump without giving myself a problem?

I'd be grateful for any help I can get.

Richard

Do you use another post processing program?

Chauncey,

Yes, I use DPP to convert the RAW files then go straight to PS7.

Danpass,

Surely the two EOS 1D and the Rebel Drivers can be ditched?

why bother? those files arent very big. id get rid of stuff like AOL, games, pictures (after u backed them up).

you didnt mention your computer set up but what i would have done is on your c-drive, only put operating system and photoshop. everything else on another drive. that way it wont get full and slow down your system and if it ever crashes and burns, just replace it and your data is safe.

As mentioned, they are rather small. Sometimes parts of a file are common to another file.

I just don't like to mess with success in these cases

No,

I've already seen Photostitch in action so that ones already a keeper!

I'd not considered shifting all my normal computer software to the external hard drive. At the moment I work the other way round - keeping all my photographic files on the external drive. Thanks for the idea, I'll mull that one over.

Up to now I've been able to rescan from film so my computer housekeeping has not been a major issue. This will have to change now that at least a proportion of my output will not have any physical form. I intend to continue using my EOS-3 for landscapes with the 30D for motor and water sports.

OK, I take the hint. I've got to keep the lot.

Thanks to you all for your guidance.

Richard
