I'm quite pissed having submitted my invoices from last October twice and not receiving my rebates. At over $500 I'm about to file suit against Canon within the next two weeks.

Is anyone else in the same position and want to to join in the action against Canon? I will fund 100% of the legal expense.

Over $500? Sounds silly to sue, but I'd be on the phone with Canon every week till I saw it in my hands.

Funny you brought that up. I haven't even received my rebate from buying a Canon camcorder.

I've only been waiting a month and was already loosing patience. I'd better go and take some pictures to ocupy myself from what I am hearing.

Tony, when did you first hear they were processing your refund? Should I be hearing soon from your experience?

Richard.

I submitted mine in November and got two e-mails saying that my submissions were being processed (2 items for double rebates). Got one check for a single rebate, waited 6 weeks, got nothing on the second. Called and was told that I hadn't submitted UPC code on the second (I had). Mailed Xerox copy as per verbal instructions, waited the required 6 weeks, saw nothing on the rebate website. Called again and was told that it was too late, that last fall's rebate was closed and that I was SOL. Made a big stink, was given the phone # for an actual Canon person - not one of the Neanderthals that work for the rebate center (sorry, if I am insulting the Neanderthals - they were probably smarter than the rebate people). Courteous, intelligent person, fast action, got rebate in 2-3 weeks. That was about 2 months ago - 7 months after the initial rebate submission.

I completely understand your frustration. Call them, demand to be passed up to Canon. I hope that you kept a complete copy of all of your documentation. I would give you the magic phone # or a contact e-mail, but I purged all of my documentation after I got my rebate.

Go easy on them. Canon is having a tuff time making a camera that can auto focus, let alone finding a competent subcontractor that will send rebate cash back to you. I had the same problem with my rebates ($750 worth) keep on them, sending e-mails and calling. In the end I did receive my rebate.

The official rebate link is (www.web-rebates.com/canon (external link)). Unfortunately, none of the links on that page do anything, since all of the rebates listed have "expired" (rebate-speak for "You're SOL, sucker").

This link (http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Canon-Lenses/Canon-Lens-Rebates.aspx (external link)) echoes my experiences with Canon's rebate program, and he lists a few phone numbers and an e-mail address that should still work.

If you read the page, right above the list of rebates it says "Select Check Rebate Status (external link) if you have already mailed your rebate submission." That'll let you check the status on every rebate request they've received from you. Mine arrived satisfactorily. I just, AAMOF, deposited the latest SanDisk rebate they processed for me as well.

Hi Rich,In almost every instance of a screw up it just took a firm, somewhat stern phone call to the rebate center and they corrected the problem without resubmissions. They have the power to do that but don't volunteer it initially.

I received mine late, but only after bugging them constantly. Suggest you do the same.

Mail-in rebates are rapidly becoming the latest scam, and it's not the manufacturers that are doing it, but the rebate fulfillment companies. What happens is that a manufacturer sets aside a certain amount of money for rebates as a marketing tool. They then contract with a fulfillment company to handle the rebate processing. The rebate money is paid to the fulfillment company with the understanding that they can keep the money from any unclaimed or improperly submitted rebates. Ever notice how the most common reason for rejection of a rebate submission is missing bar codes? They seem to get lost because the fulfillment companies know the average consumer won't make copies of the package bar code before sending it in.

Unfortunately, this is not the fault of the manufacturers, but it serves to give them a bad name. Hopefully, if enough people complain to Canon they will do something about it. I believe, there is at least one State's Attorney General that is investigating Canon's fulfillment company. There have been enough problems that Canon has changed the process and now offers "instant rebate" at the time or purchase.

I can't understand why they don't make it a geniune sale in the first place.
Lower the sticker price right away to the sale price and in people will flock if its a true sale.
local canadian camera retailer is doing this with the 30d but the price advertised in bold as always in the fine print........after the rebates or mail ins.
In my opinion, though I did get my canon $50.00 cdn. rebate i think its an excuse to delay payment in case you didn't jump thru a qualifying hoop
