This male Banded Demoiselle Damselfly (Calopteryx splendens) was photographed today at Dryslwyn Castle (near Carmarthen) on the River Towy.

Taken with a 24 - 105 f4 lens and 13mm extension tube.

C & C welcome.

He's posing nicely for you there. My cat eats those or chases them away before I can take a picture. She follows me around and let's me find them for her. Next time I'm gonna lock her in the house.

@Dave, they can be buggers indeed. They're a little easier when away from water as they're on the lookout for a meal then rather than guarding territory.
Nice catch Ray.

I also managed to get a shot of the female (attached) - it's not quite as sharp as the male. Didn't get a second chance!

All the better for a pair, Ray. The male as in the real world is by far the better creature :-)
Lovely shots.

These are really difficult to capture - just to see one is an absolute delight - well done on both captures :) ...

Lovely captures. The female doesn't look too bad for sharpness to me, though I appreciate a full-size shot may show differently. Downsizing does have the odd advantage. :D

Thanks for the encouragement everyone; I've been trying to get a shot of these for a couple of years - they are normally very easy to spoke. Sometimes being in the right place at the right time helps i.e. you need a bit of luck!
