All of a sudden when I try to open a file presently in Lightroom, the following message appears "the file could not be opened". They are all Raw and I have been working with them off and on. Any ideas? Please Help!

What do you mean by open? Do you mean display in Library or Develop Module?

The file does display but there is a message imposed on the image "file could not be opened" and none of the adjustment sliders will activate, neither library or develop.

Sounds like your preview in the catalog file is not linked to the original image... have you moved any images around outside of LR? Are any of the folders in your folder list in red?

I think I have found the problem, although I don't know why it happened or how to avoid it repeating. Thanks for your replies.

Mike
