They don't look washed out to me so you did something right :) I love these. That is a beautiful wasp and your shots are amazing. Very sharp with full body in focus. I like that.

AMAZING! What's the secret to prevent the reds from washing out? diffusing more? underexpose by half? Excellent work, looks great!

Thanks everyone for all the comments.

I wish I new this secret. I had to mess the adjustments for the RAW, then fix it when I processed the jpg. The RAW I took was blown out. I've noticed this before on reds tho.

yours looks much richer than the one in the link which is more tawny - do they vary? Amazing looking insect, glad to have seen.

I don't know if they very or not. I think the one in the link may not be accurate as far as colors.

Just don't get Stung or bitten. I have seen these twice now and man I tell you what it is something when you see the fallen autumn leaves moving when this guy sorry Gal is walking around. Great captures.

These are great, you are brave getting close to these for the sake of our art. In fairness they are supposed to be quite evasive, even so, it's gunna smart if it stings you!

^There's a reason it's called a cow ant.

The timing though, I just went out back for a few macro shots and low and behold what did I see. It was fast and I lost it in the grass. I got scared and just walked away. Got one shot of it running away though.

Beautiful shots! Washed out? If anything the saturation could be dialed back a tad. If you haven't calibrated your monitor, that may be why you "think" they are washed out. The wasp looks like he belongs on that plant (and not on a cow!)
