Hello POTN!

I've been thinking of getting myself an EOS 5D, but I've heard, that some lenses that fits on a 350D (my current camera) won't fit on the 5D!? Can someone comfirm that?

And if you also could tell me if the lenses i already have, will fit on the 5D:

Canon EF 50 mm f: 1,8 II
Canon EF-L 70-200 mm f: 4,0 USM
Canon 18-55 mm kit lens

So will they fit on a 5D?

Thanks in advance!

The Canon 5D will take the Canon EF lenses but NOT the EF-S lenses. Your kit lens won't fit.

Right, it won't fit. Others on POTN have said they can be modified to fit but I can't help you there.

The 50 and the 70-200 will fit no problem. If you are going with the 5D, I would suggest getting a Canon 17-40 f/4 L which is a good UWA for the 5D. That pretty much covers the range you have( 17mm-200mm). Hope that helps.

IMO, it wouldn't even be worth it to try to modify a EF-S lens to fit a FF. Assuming you get alright optics that doesn't leave bad vignetting on a FF, the image quality is still going to be less then a normal kit lens.

Thanks! If it's only the kit lens, I won't mind. The only reason why i haven't gotten rid of that, is because i dont have a wideangle lens yet :D but thanks guys!

Correct - all your lenses except the kit would work.

Why in heaven's name would you want to use the kit lens on a 5D?! The 5D tends to be tough on lenses - you need to put good glass in front of it because it will point up the problems quickly. The kit lens would be awful plus it would vignette like crazy (smaller image circle).

I never gave the FF a thought as I believe others were talking about modifying them for a crop camera.
Personally, I wouldn't buy an EF-S lens (not that my 10D would be able to use it anyway) even if my camera took them in the event somewhere in the future I wanted to upgrade to something that doesn't take the EF-S lenses, including the 5D.
