Hi All
Just got back a few days ago from a long sought after vacation on the west coast of the island (my home place).

I'd thought not to post anymore icebergs to spear the agony on the viewers. But if desired, I can still do so.

The barren Tablelands, a large area where part of the earth's underlying mantle — an ancient ocean — was pushed up to the surface when two tectonic plates collided (about 470 million years ago) Found between Trout River and Woody Point in Gros Morne National Park, this range of mountains look more like Arizona than forested Newfoundland. This is due to the ultramafic rock - peridotite - which makes up the Tablelands. It is thought to originate in the earth's mantle and was forced up from the depths during a plate collision several hundred million years ago. Peridotite lacks the usual nutrients required to sustain most plant life, hence its barren appearance. The rock is very low in calcium, very high in magnesium, and has toxic amounts of heavy metals. Peridotite is also high in iron, which accounts for its brownish color. Underneath this weathered zone, the rock is really a dark green color.

As you can see it was quite windy, but with my kit bag attached to the center column and my arms and legs wrapped around the tripod, I managed to to steady the camera enough to take a shot.

Great shot. The only ting is I would have like to see the tip of the tree. Rather than cut off.
The colours are great.

Nice shot Frank! I'm with weka on the tip of the tree being cut off. Great colors and saturation. Good job!

I saw this photo, and actually said WOW out loud. The colors are amazing, and I love the dead tree in the foreground (but I also would like to see the top of it). Maybe decrease a bit of the contrast...

I agree, it is a nice shot. It does look a little too saturated though.

Great shot, seems over-saturated to me. I didn't notice the chopped tree myself, too busy looking at the amazing color contrast.

Nice one Frank.....reminds me of a few years back when I went this route also. Looks like there is still some snow left in the clefts near the top. I know there was some there when we went in late July years back. We took the little car ferry across the Bay and shot back at the Tablelands getting a few of the snow. Must see if I can dig them up from wherever they are......:)

Thanks all for your great comments and criticism.

As for saturation, there wasn't much done. An adjustment of about +10 on the master slider.

The scene itself held a lot of natural color under the setting sun with the lush green grass and the brown colored mountain.
