Well instead of trying to make the MKIII pack up or fault at focus as i have done since i got it i decided to have a trip out to see some old friends who i have not been to visit for some time now.

Made the half hour journey up to Badby in Northamptonshire to the KSMXC meeting and as luck would have it the Sun was out and it stayed dry all day which when you have a load of bikes roaring round a field makes you realise just how good the 1 series is as the dust was about 3 mm thick in the end of the 300s lens hood by the end of the day and the camera was not much better.

Some people are quicker than others like this chap number 77

The track at Badby is not the most technical of tracks as it runs up a hill but there are a few small jumps

All in all had a very good day though and the MKIII impressed me more than i thought and the AF was much better than the MKIIN.

Thanks for looking and hope you all had a great weekend.

First off, that fence thing with the ropes has to go. That is the most dangerous thing I have ever seen on a MX track. Please get all of the riders together and demand those things be taken down. We already have way too many serious injuries in this sport with out stupid things like that near the race track.

Secondly your photos are really nice with the exception of the last one. Just looks too processed to me.

Glen, Great stuff, like the 2nd and last images, you have really captured what motox is all about, the hardest and toughest motorsport there is.

Cheers

I think the processed one looks great well done on all these, and brave. £3k's worth of camera, i'd wait at least til i'd accidentally dropped it and scratched it before i took it any where near mud and stuff. Weather sealing or otherwise! ;)

Cheers for the comments guys.

Know what you mean about the ropes and i am afraid to say that for club meetings this is still acceptable over here at the moment but we are now seeing more and more using tape rather than rope but until something goes really wrong the clubs still put up with it.

The pans if i remember were at 1/125 all taken at the 70 end of the 70-200 f2.8 but will need to check the exif.

Nick how did the lens calibration go and did you make it to Willen for the wakeboards? Thanks for the kind words and once my wedding is out the way am going to make a point of getting out to MX meetings more often again,i was like a little kid in a sweet shop being round bikes again it was great.Just booked my ticket to the Crusty Demons freestyle MX tour which is coming to the UK for the first time in January so that is my birthday present to myself so cant wait to get let loose with the MKIII for that.

Was over the moon with the performance of the MKIII and could not believe the amount of keepers compared to th MKIIN which was no slouch. The only ones that i found fault with was due to the camera operater being a bit rusty at panning. The speed that it gained initial focus was stunning and it tracked what ever was under the centre point of focus that i had it pointing at without a single problem.

Did rap my 1DMKIIN up in cotton wool for the first 6 months of ownership but after spending all that dosh on another body was not going to make the same mistake again so am just using it as much as i can and if anything happens then so be it.Got a good insurance policy to cover all my camera gear regardless and public liability insurance which i had to have for 2 of my local tracks that i used to take pictures at so if the mkIII chews it then at least it will die doing what it and i like LOL. And on top of that i spent an hour cleaning it before i even attempted to remove the lens in my car while the riders stopped for lunch and then cleaned all my kit again once home.

Processed pic was a tone mapped RAW converted in Photomatix Pro then LucisArt filter applied in Photoshop CS3 but have got another which is more suttle with just a grey grad added at the top of the pic to help the sky out a bit.

Thanks once again for your comments guys and look forward to seeing some of your pics.

Glenn, good to see your are enjoying the MKIII experience;) I had a lazy weekend so I didn't get around to checking my lenses out and visiting Willen. Thought I would save my self for this weekends world superbike at Brands and an Airshow at Old Warden.

Cheers
