help id... cocoon?

Well, I'm down in Guatemala visiting with some family, and while looking at some tropical flowers my Grandmother had out in the living room I spotted this object... It is so shiny I thought it was a bead or something man-made, but I think it might be a cocoon!

Anyone care to try and id it for me? What will this guy look like when its mature?

Sorry for the crummy picture, but I don't yet own a decent macro lens, so I shot this with my 18-200mm at 200mm...

edit: forgot to add, the object is approximately 3/4" inch in length

I don't have an id for you but that thing is absolutely beautiful. Just goes to show that nature is still better at making beautiful things than man :)

Yea tell me about it! I seriously thought it was a bead or jewel that was somehow attached to the petal... I wasn't aware that cocoons could be so beautiful!
