I think they put it for Nikon first is because D40 and D40x does not have enough decent consumer end of zooms. It put in HSM to compensate D40 and D40x that does not have motor on their camera to drive the AF on the lens.


I always though the Nikon Kit lens was actually pretty good, certainly an awful lot better than the Canon one.
And of course the current Canon version of the 17-70 already has its own focus motor, I would assume the current Nikon one does as well

I love the new user name :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

I thought long and hard about getting a 24-70 instead of the 17-70. In the end the extra 7mm was the winner, I have not yet regretted it.
