Hiya All,

These didn't come as sharp as I'd hope but still sharp enough to sting my Stump a few times :lol: had hell of a job trying to get the focus on these & as you can see I failed :lol:

#1 is cropped from the original & #2 is heavily cropped from #1 you can see the Twin Stingers I cropped towards the bottom of the Stem in #1

Hi Mark,

They certainly look sharp enough to hurt. Focus seems sharp, however more depth of field is required to hold the picture.

In the tradition of appending trivial information, Urtica dioica releases three chemicals that sting the skin when you brush up against its hairs and break them: "a histamine that irritates the skin, acetylcholine which causes a burning sensation and serotonin, that encourages the other two chemicals."

Interesting shots, but I wouldn't exactly say I'm fond of nettles (or the awful puns :rolleyes.
They're important because they're foodplants for some of Europe's most stunning butterflies but I could do without getting stung in order to get my photos.

Nasty little plant, great for tea and I think the pub was the one Hugh Fearnly-Wittingstall had on one of the River Cottage programs wasn't it Mark? Your shots certainly shows it's venom. :-(

Stingers are the most versatile ' Weed ' Yep they're good for Tea & a Spinach substitute but there are loadsa things one can use em for including making String, cloth & paper just to much to mention
