In addition to the wonderful detail everyone commented upon, I love the composition and camera angle of #2...a simply fascinating image, Alby.

Take care.

Robbers really are the muscle men of the diptera world. Excellent detail.

very contented looking ape, pretty muscular themselves.

Thanks RM, I was surprised at the size of them, quite a fly.

awesome shot. what is a FZ8? and raynox 250 for that matter!

Thanks David, the FZ8 is a panasonic camera and the Raynox dcr250 is a clip on lens that you can use with any other lens, it fit 52-67mm thread.

Thanks Irwin, I would have liked to have got around the front more but wasn't able due to the fencing.

Bill the FZ8 is a Panasonic all in one camera with a 36mm-432mm zoom. It's quite small and easy to carry around and has a fully functional set of controls from full manual to fully auto everything shooting. I really love this little camera. It does great videos too:-) I would have liked the new Canon S5 but couldn't afford it at the time. :-(

Good shot Alby, looks very similar to the Robberflies that we had in Sydney.

I'm always amazed by the amount of detail and beauty in these little creatures. You've really captured that. I really like the monochromatic feel of the bug to the wood, while still achieving enough contrast to separate the two. Great work.

Thanks for your comment seesponge. They are quite large flies so that helps somewhat.
