Hi everyone
Attached is a phot of a female Chironomidae, one of the 200 or so UK species of non-biting freshwater midges. They come in a range of sizes and colours, this one being about 12mm long.
This evening, when processing the shots I spotted what look like a number of parasitic mites attached to the rear of the abdomen - a cropped enlargement is attached. Anyone seen anything like this before or any idea whether it's a terrestrial or aquatic parasite?
