Thanks Alby. I am sure I can get more detail from the body as only a couple of the shots I took may have a tiny bit of cropping to remove unwanted areas, they are really gorgeous arent they.

The plant is ECHINOPS. They have the spikey head for a long time, then it starts to change colour slightly and then the lilac flowers start to open. I am going to get some more :D

Thanks for the ID Linda, I think I'm going to get some also. Like I said before, I saw these in a garden at Corfe in Dorset last week and they were full of bees and other flying insects, they seem to stay on the plant for a long time also giving you a good chance of shooting them :-)
