I own the canon 65mm macro. Does anyone know what the magnification of this lens is? And what help would it do if i bought a set of kenko tubes? Are the canon tubes better? And if anyone knows of a link for me to check the kenko tubes out, price and all. I would appreciate it if you shared.
Thanks,
Ryan.

Your sure its a 65?? that would make it an MPE-65mm ??
Or is it a 60mm ??

If you have the MPE-65mm you don't need Kenko Tubes you have all the closeness you could possibly want.

If you have the 60mm then Kenko's should work nicely with it :)

Sorry for not specifying at first. I have the Canon EF-S 60mm Macro lens. So tubes would go good with my current lens?

Kenkos should work fine with the 60mm I believe the ratio is 1:1 without any tubes just the stock standard lens.

Kenkos are a great investment, they are cheap, light, and can be used on almost any Lens, even the big Whites :) .... Skippy

I'm pretty sure that for example on a 50mm lens 32mm of extension tubes I think make 1:1... but that might be wrong

I, too, own the EF-S 60 Macro and, yes, the max. magnification is 1:1.

So what would the extension tubes do exactly?

I have had the 60mm for a long time now (as well as the 100mm) and use the 60mm for the majority of the time.

What exactly is it you want to photograph that makes you want to use extension tubes with it? I have never felt the need to get any.

How long have you had this lense and how much have you used it, and for what type of macro photography are we talking about here.

Well, i just wanted to really know what extension tubes were for. I use this lens for macro photography, mainly insects. But i was just seeing what the use of extension tubes were. And if they were compatible with the lens. I've had the lens since i think january. And i use it more than any other of the lenses.

If you are interested in ext tubes for your lens you would need to make sure you got ones that work with EF-S lenses- Jessops in the UK, pro-optic from adorama in the US and the latest Kenko ones on EBAY do work but with the Kenkos you would need to make sure it says they work with EF-S lenses. Simplest explanation is that a full set of extension tubes would enable you to shoot at just over 2:1 with that lens instead of the 1:1 limit you have now.

Thanks brian, so that would mean that the insects would be magnified 2x more than what they already are?

Exactly so 1 cm of subject would be 2cms of image on the sensor instead of 1cm.
