*** Firmware 1.1.0 for 1DmkIII is up ***

Sorry if this is old news, look almost like 1.0.9 but with minor different.

The new firmware for the Mark III should be generally available from: http://web.canon.jp/im​aging/BeBit-e.html at 10am Tokyo time (GMT+9) July 31st. It includes the following improvements and fixes:

1. Improves the look of images when played back on the LCD monitor.
   Applies a slightly stronger sharpness setting to the LCD monitor when images are played back.
   
2. Fixes for Main Dial response errors (Main, Quick Control, Vertical-grip Main).
   Fixes a rare response error in the Main Dials in which they either did not respond when rotated or would change several clicks' worth even if only clicked once.
   
3. Reduces the tendency to autofocus on the background instead of the main subject when shooting in AI Servo AF under certain conditions.
   Reduces the tendency of the camera to autofocus on high-contrast backgrounds when shooting in conditions where AF detection is difficult, such as when the main subject is not completely covered by the AF frames or if the main subject's contrast is low.
   
4. Corrects errors in the Italian and Simplified Chinese menu screens.
   
5. Fixes a rare phenomenon in which the camera cannot start normally when the battery is inserted, such as after replacing the battery. This phenomenon sometimes occurred with the version 1.0.9 firmware when the battery was inserted into the camera due to the camera's communication timing. The occurrences were extremely rare, and abnormal operation could be fixed by reloading the battery. The version 1.1.0 firmware incorporates fixes for this phenomenon.

let's hope that this takes care of the AF issue.
If there is simplified Chinese menu, is there a complex one as well?

Installed......the LCD seems better.

I had the dial spin issues and that seems gone...but way to early to tell....

The Chinese menu in my hand (Werewolf in London?) seems better

My serious concern is the fact that the static subject focus "hunting" is the same

I'll try tomorrow in some daylight........It is a start.

So...am I the first with 1.1.0?

No, I was installing mine as I made original post.

I think the LCD is clearer, but to be honest I never had any focus tracking issues with my 70-200 that I couldn't attribute to a shallow DOF or the focus point over a different part of the subject. I'm interested in how your license plate testing turns out now.

Come now...my computer is faster...I won! Thanks a million for the post Dave...I appreciate it.

I did a few of my kids running at me in the yard today...same result.

Will try again tomorrow..... Remember f2.8 is pretty slow in the world I play in so perhaps most folks are OK....I'm just that picky.

Sorry, could someone humor me and tell me exactly how many bytes your firmware download file is? Mine did not come out to be what the web page said it would.

I am getting: 9.88 MB (10,369,144 bytes)
