Hi all,

I have recently had a basketball shot make the final few of "Action Shot Of The Year". Since the original was only sent for web use they have asked for a copy of the shot in larger format as they want to hang all the finalists around the stadium at the play-offs. This is something I have never really had to do as all my work is usually for newspapers or web. The original was shot at 6.3 megapixels and only needs a slight crop. I'm using CS2...Is it better to use the pre-set crop tool of "6x4 300dpi" or should I manually set it higher?

Any assistance will be GREATLY appreciated!

Apologies for my ignorance, I really should know this stuff by now!

The more replies the merrier!

Thanks in advance

Rob

I'ld think 6x4 would be a bit small for wall hanging...
Set the crop to whatever aspect ratio (like 2:3), but leave the Dpi field empty. That way, you won't resize when cropping, so you end up with a cropped, but big (original sized: 6 Mp minus cropped bit) image.
Let the printing lab do the (up) sizing.

Ahhh ok, so if I set the ratio and don't specify the DPI it will remain at the current resolution? I guess that makes sense!

So my next question ...... How do I set the aspect ratio?

Select the crop tool. In the top left of PS there are boxes "width', 'height' and 'resolution'.
Fill in the first two, leave the last blank...

Thank you so much. I really appreciate the trouble you have gone to. It is done now! It is always very assuring to come to the forum and know that people will go to such lengths to help a fellow photographer. I connot thank you enough. :)
