Predator and Prey

I knew that ladybirds ate aphids, just never seen them at it before.
Here are a few pics of the action.

#1 First capture, I didn't even see the aphid in the background until I chimped the photo.

Oh the humanity... An aphid snuff film...
My old house had willow trees which seem to be a favorite of aphids and they would eventually open enough holes in the bark so that sitting under the tree you would feel a mist of sticky sap. Well, my mom found a mail order place that shipped us a large burlap bag filled with newspaper shreddings and ladybugs. There had to be thousands if not more and we let them loose under the tree. Within weeks the tree was aphid free and the ladybugs spread out over the neighborhood devouring aphids all over. For the entire summer we had these guys hanging around.

nice series i didn't know they eat other insects also. and we call them ladybug over here.

Great set of shots Trevor, I could only see the aphid on my laptop at first then as I scrolled down this huge ladybird appeared from below
