Completely off topic, but not really... Happy Mother's Day to all the moms today! (camera totin' or not...) Take the day off and indulge..a little !

Thanks Ed. I indulged. ;) Seafood alfredo for dinner, with a nice glass (bottle) of Liebfraumilch.
I did, however, pass on dessert. ;)

I grilled some chicken in a mango-chipotle sauce, made a couple of salads and put out strawberries and watemelon. Not bad.....until my daughter brought homemade brownies! Yes, I had one :D

Thanks for the reminder, Mo.

I seem to have hit a point where I'm struggling - varying between 15 and 17lbs to lose and not able to get below that at present.

I too may need to rethink my bedtimes... ;)

I’m joining up on this movement. The past 4-5 months I got lazy and I definitely gained weight after I stop hitting the gym. Weight right now is 195 and I’m 5’ 9”. Been trying to eat right and have been hitting the gym about 3 times per week (2 during weekdays and 1 during weekend) the past 2-3 weeks. I think I lost about 3-5 pounds during this process. Few things I need to do:

1) Sleep early – have a horrible habit of sleeping late (average 4-5 hours of sleep) and since I work relatively longer hours (12 hours from 7AM-7PM) I always wake up tired and end up skipping the gym. Goal is to get to bed by 11PM and over time see if I can get to bed by 10PM and wake up at 5AM-5:30AM to hit the gym.
2) Hit the gym more often – My old routine about 5 times per week. I’m trying to get back that. Lift 3 days per week + 40 minutes cardio. Interval days do cardio 1 hour. Also I’m going to run on the treadmill more since I was hesitant about that because of my knee so I used the elliptical machine. I’ve been running the past few weeks and as long as I don’t over push myself this should be ok.
3) Eat healthy – I already cut out on all caffeine/soda 8-10 months ago. My only vice now is bottled fruit drinks (like those 100% cranberry juice drinks) which I try to keep to 1-2 per day since the sugars on that are pretty high. Rest of the time I’m sticking to water. Also I’m going to revert by to my old method and frontload my diet. So basically my largest meal will be breakfast. I already eat many small meals during the day but sometimes I sneak in a bag of chips (which I’m going to try to avoid).

So assuming this is week 1 (6/24/08)…it’s go time. Will report back with progress/insight.

well... i rethought my bedtime a couple of nights ago
went to bed not tired at 10:30... got comfortable, shut my eyes, and did not move.
for an hour, kept totally still and relaxed.
and, did not fall asleep.
so then i got some earplugs and put them in, and took about another hour to go to sleep, where i woke up multiple times all night... and got out of bed in the morning exhausted and stiff-necked.

last time i put myself to bed early!

Hi Ken, and welcome! Looking forward to sharing your progress. :D

I'm doing ok. Not great, but ok.
I found that the gym was not for me. Hated going alone, but didn't have a partner.

Racquetball is much better. It is extremely enjoyable, and I work MUCH harder than I did at the gym.
I haven't weighed myself recently, so I don't know if there has been any change there, but I feel better... that's what counts.

Mo... you are an inspiration. Thank you! (though I admit to being a wee bit jealous, lol)

I am glad to see a bit of resurgance here....NO SLACKING ALLOWED!;);):p

I am here to report that I hit a 71 lb. weight loss as of today and am now only 8 lbs. from my goal weight.

Now mind you, I am not skinny. Confession time. I started at 234 lbs. and now weigh 163. My goal weight is 155 in which I wear a size 10-12. Right now I am in a 12-14 but I started out in size 22-24. It has also taken me about a year to get to this point because I didn't want to diet as much as i wanted to make some changes that I could live with daily. Because I know going off the 'diet' part would only result in the weight gain.

Yes I had days where I didn't stick to the plan. I had 2 days of drinking on the cruise...and eating french fries. One day I ate a whole small box of Cheez-it and once I ate the hugest piece of chocolate cake ever. But the trick is to do it once in a while, not everyday. And get back on the program the next day. It is life long change of habit.

I will tell you all how good I feel. It is amazing the increase in stamina and mobility that I have. I saw my Dr. last week for the first time in a year. He couldn't get over it, even though I reminded him that he was the one who told me to try to lose even 30 or 40 lbs. He said "Yeah, Maureen, but no one ever listens to me when I tell them to lose weight!"

Okay, I am done rambling.

It is summer. Get out there and swim, hike, bicycle, etc. Moving is half the battle. Me...I am off to the pool this afternoon.

woohoo maureen - what an inspiration you've been :)
you are right too - whenever you 'cheat', instead of going oh bugger it i should just pig out all day long, i've stuffed it now... instead you just prepare your next meal as if you never cheated - that is the secret to long term weight loss & management

You are right; there is no magic pill or diet. It really has to be an everyday issue.
