Kristina, the lens was a 70-200mm 2.8 with a 2x extender. Add my 20D's cropped sensor and the max range there is 640mm. Not sure if you're working on a crop sensor or not but your 300 should yield near 500mm. Just be sure to get close to the waters edge.

Great shots on your walk Ed.. I agree with your problem. Now you've got a reason to park it in front of the computer while going through your 100 images. Maybe we need a maximum number of shots one can take on such a walk to prevent the inactivity while post processing.

Of course if one would get one of those bouncy balls to sit on (Think Dwight in last season's episode of The Office) which keeps the body moving - would help.. However I think my horizon straightening and cropping may suffer with the constant movement.. :)

Mike, I suffer from back pain and have been seeing a Chiropractor for about 2 years. (Don't tell my hubby, lol ;) )
Working out really really does help. When I started going to the gym regularly, my visits to the chiro were cut in half. If your wife has seen a chiro, tell her to ask him which exercises are best for her... my doc gave me specific machines to avoid, and specific ones to use to strengthen the muscles holding my 'problem areas' of my back. The stronger those muscles get, the less I have to worry about a rib slipping loose, or a vertebrae moving.

So my gym time consists of 15 minutes cardio, 30 minutes strength training, 15 minutes easy cardio (cooldown).

Maxy, I weighed this morning ... put me down for 1 pound lost. :D

Nice cat...gotcha in

Morning all. Just got back from 4 days hking in the mountains and camping underneath the stars. Although I ate a few Cheetos and two S'mores during the trip, I climbed boulders with my grandson and hiked hills everyday. I came home 1 lb. lighter and just thankful I didn't gain anything. There was a ton of tempting food but I stuck with the scrambled eggs, steak and lot's of fruit and salads.

Should this count as week one?

milleker wrote in post #3720726 (external link)
Thanks for the comments everyone, I just weighed myself after lunch and I've lost 2lbs thus far - please update the scoreboard. As long as I'm in the negative week to week I'll stay motivated. Subway tonight!

gotcha in

Hey all, Just a small update from little old me

I have just finished a bike ride which had taken me 1:25 mins to complete.

distance covered is 27.6km, with an average speed of 19.5km, top speed of 55.1

and now I feel nacked, sore and hungry.

Woo Hoo, great job!!!!

This afternoon I took a page out of Kristin's book and took a 1 & 1/2 mile walk, although mine was fairly leisurely. It was very relaxing, especially clearing my head. I took my camera and 100-400mmL along and wound up snapping 100 or so frames. This creates a dilemma for me...I could easily spend 3 or 4 hours playing with and posting the images. What I will do is play with about 10 tonight (about 45 minutes or so) and maybe another 5 tomorrow morning before I walk Sam. Here's a couple of selected shots taken as I walked by a doggie beach...

Great shots Ed. The tough thing about trying to get exercise walking with a camera is it takes me 10 minutes to make 100' when I get into photo taking mode. :)

John - thanks for the tips and details. No way anything's going on this lens, the thing sucks as is :) I can wait until November when I shop! But I try to make the most of what I have to learn, at least.

I used to use a ball as my office chair - it was awesome and I keep meaning to get a new one but haven't done it yet. The one I have now is too big. They really are better than a chair...

I know...that's why my walk was "leisurely";).

*sigh*

My sister in law works for Little Caesar's Pizza.

They just stopped by for a quick visit.

She brought me some cheesy bread. (external link)

Oh man, the cheesy bread with that marinara/pizza sauce? To heck with the pizza, give me the bread! I haven't had that in forever.

"[Homer's voice] glglglglglglgl... Cheeese bread"...

Well don't let it get you down, your body will get rid of the saturated fats thanks to the garlic, and you will be back up in no time at all. No reason for despair or dissapointment. You look and sound like a very resilient person. That is such a good trait!. :)

Don't even think about pity, or throwing in the towel. That's a no can do.

PS: And send me any leftover cheese bread, I must sacrifice myself for you...;)

 It was so incredibly yummy. :D I won't hate myself for it till tomorrow.

I'm thinking of riding my stationary bike all night instead of sleeping.

Mario... I have about 6 pieces left, but I also have a promise to a 13 year old son that he can have whatever's leftover for breakfast. (oh how I envy teenage boy metabolisms!) You can fight him for them. :p

Wish I could, but I used to love cold pizza for breakfast as a kid...

Thanks for the offer though. :)

Oh man! I'm glad I've just had my lunch or I'd be really drooling! I adore that stuff :D :D

I can't wait to hit the US in November coz I'm gonna eat all the goodies I can't get here: birthday cake, real pizza with extra spicy sausage, cheesy breadsticks, prime rib, Barq's root beer, a real cheeseburger, pecan pie...
