Ive seen this, they seem to like to gather on a certain flower in my backyard, dont know what kind of flower. But im almost positive this isnt a mosquito

thank guys for the info. Alby had a hard time trying to focus with the breeeze going. still shooting handheld. haven't figure out what kind of tripod i want yet. still a toss up.

looks like a Stilt Bug (berytidae). Maybe of the genus Jalysus.

Bill tripods are fine for inert objects but for anything that moves get a monopod or continue hand held. You are doing great guns from what you have posted so far. You can't expect to get every shot perfect.

thanks Alby i been debating on getting a monopod seem like i'm just adding more weight to my set up. i'm getting a use rebel next to use for macro. it's an old 6 mega pixel one. hope to lighten up the load some with that.

We call them Crane Flys. I heard, but don't know for certain, that green lacewings are the larvae of these.

no and no mate, definitely Stilt bug and Lacewings (Chrysopidae) are not even the same Order as Craneflies (diptera). Cranefly larvae are known as Leatherjackets and look like legless caterpillars.
