One thing is that the eyes on them always seem to look a touch out of focus. Any tips to get a sharper eye? (On these insects anyway, I can get them fine on others)

It's a bit strange as even in this photo where the light hits the eye you can see the compound eye effect( even more so at 100%) yet the eye still looks a little blurry when viewing the pic as a whole.

Personally, I suspect it's because of the colour change within the eye. The compound nature means this line will never be sharp at the magnification you are using. Thus we are given the impression that the eyes are soft.
