Woot, I got my first Asukabook today, and so far i'm pretty impressed.

It was kinda a last minute thing, the B&G wanting to have a guestbook with their engagement pictures as a guestbook, something I had mentioned to them during the engagement shoot. Only problem was that we were coming down to 4 weeks to the wedding date (Aug 11th).

So being my first Asukabook, I had to rush a design which I think I could of done a better job if I had more time, but in the end, for my first book, i'm happy. Asuka was by far wicked to deal with. I probably spoke with Jen @ Asuka a few times. She was extremely helpful with finding out the best way to ship the product to me, and also gave me about 6 different shipping methods and price.

I believe my order date was July 16th. I optd for the $40 'rush'. This cuts it down to 3 weeks total time. That means the 3 weeks also includes the delivery to me. Keep in mind i'm in Canada, and need to worry about the package 'possibly' being held up at customs.

Well on July 26th I got a email confirmation that my Asukabook was being shipped via USPS (EMS priority). Wow, 10 days from the order date, and today it arrived at work. That was also a plus, as the package was to be shipped to my house (about 1min from my work) but luckily I know the Purolator guy well, and he saw my name on the package, and dropped it off here at my shop.

I'll take some pictures of it later today and post them up once I get home. The couple ended up wanting to get a 7x7 softbook. The frosted cover is a nice touch. Pics soon...

In the end, would I order from them again? In a heartbeat! Their customer service rocks, and shipment time was amazing.

The 'only' one thing that was a bit of a surprise was the $7.50 handling fee, which I was not aware off (can anyone find this on their website). Seeing that I paid $40 for a rush service, it seemed a little odd to add the handling fee on top of them, but oh well, I got my book, and i'm happy.

Dope! Sorry, I had to goto the B&G house last night to confirm some details and give them the book. Don't worry I ordered a 2nd copy at the same time, so I'll take pics of that one ;)

Yes, its a fingerprint magnet! And that last shot shows the 'required' barcode.

I noticed that they (Asuka) just released leather bound books. I'm been meaing to finally get around to making my printed portfolio book, and I think I may try one of those out.

Very nice!

Out of curiosity, how come you went with the soft cover instead of the hardcover?

Album looks lovely from what I can see...

Can I ask a probably very stupid question about Asuka. I'm trying to put my first sample album together using the 10x10 template.

Why are my images too small? i.e why don't they fill the template, they are bigger in LxW than the actual template but when I drag them in they float within the template.

Is it ok to increase the pixels to get the image to fill the page or is there something I should be doing instead?

Thank you! I left the choice up to the customer, and they wanted a soft cover. After ordering and talking with Asuka, they mentioned that a hardcover would of been better, as the book stays open easier when guests are signing the book, which is a good FYI for next time.

dpi

Thanks CateUK! Yup, just as Cosworth mentioned, its due to your DPI.
Take a look here at Asuka's troubleshooting page (external link). They talk about the different DPI for the coverpage and also the other pages inside.

I'd have to check my master PSD files, but from what I remember, my front cover page was 240dpi, and the rest were 271.

So just as another FYI when you open each of the PSD or JPG files that you get from asuka, THE FIRST thing to do, is CHECK the DPI of that file PRIOR to bringing in any images.

Let me know if I can be of some more help. Again this was the first one I've done, but I will most likely do another one for sure.
