Can any of you "fly" experts answer this ?.

I thought this fly had his wings smashed up, but then i thought how can that happen if the rest of his body looks untouched ?.So could it be a young fly that is pumping blood into it's wings ?.

Anyway...............

Thats a great shot of it. The colour and composition is really superb.

I guess its possible that the wings hadnt fully expanded if it has just emerged, as I notice the body is quite thin too. Its either that or they are deformed and it cant feed, that would explain it being thin maybe.

I am sure you will get more opinions on this.

Its a great photo.

Lovely shot- Not sure about the reason for the state of the wings but it looks similar to newly emerged black biting flies I have seen- takes them a few hours to sort the wings out properly.

I see a few of these and presume they get stuck while trying to exit the pupa casing and there wings dont develope fully - thats my theory anyway :), nice capture ...
