Well, after purchasing my 30D, and several lenses last October I still have not received my rebates. I've sent in the information in 2006, then called in early 2007 and was told they didn't have it on file. Resent it, in March, still no money.

Has anyone else still experienced problems getting their rebates? If so please PM me. If there are others who are also still waiting I'll file a class action suit, otherwise I'm filing on my own behalf. If this warrants a class action suit I will incurr 100% of the legal expenses- we just need the names of other plaintiff's and their damages.

At this point I have no idea whether I'm an isolated incident or just one of many who have been given the run around.

Well one you'll not be suing Canon but the company reposnsible for the rebates that they hired. I think you'll get some action once you file in court. I doubt it will take long before they settle and sweep it under the carpet.

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional

I've heard lots of problems with that third-party company, just search Canon and Rebate here and you'll have a weeks worth of reading. I'm lucky, got all my rebates for the last three times I sent them in. Good luck!

rebates equal a waste of time. taking the time to fill one out, to sending one in. then waiting months to months on end to get one back.., now im not saying this directly towards canon..but rebates suck!

:D Got a question..? Need some advice...? Use the search engine.. :D

I tend to agree. I ignore rebates because they are too time consuming and result in an amount of frustration that to me costs more than the amount saved.

Young America is the problem here, not so much Canon although Canon should have chosen a more competent rebate processing company. Young America has a terrible track record and is unfortunately very commonly used by many other companies for rebate programs.

Ah, but one can sue Canon. It is Canon that promised the rebates, even if they hired a thrid party to administer it.

If you really want a fast resolution, take steps to see that the suit is in the news, even if only a local paper.

I filed my rebates promptly after purchasing my camera and lenses. About two weeks later, I received an e-mail stating they had received my rebate forms and would be processing them shortly. After two months I had heard nothing from them.

I tried looking up the info on their web site with no luck. So after about three months with no contact, I called them. Turns out they had managed to mis-spell my name and entered the wrong house number in my address.

After sorting that out, I discovered that they had indeed mailed my check promptly -- to the wrong address and it had been returned. Once the info was corrected, I could look up my info on their web site and follow the process. It took about two weeks to get the check for $930.

I made sure I filled out the forms correctly and legibly. They still managed to botch it up pretty good.

Just my experience ...

They 'issue' your check and then 'lose' it then take it as their own revenue.

a google -

"The lawsuit notes that Young America "took as its own revenue" uncashed checks totaling almost $43 million from January 1, 1995, to June 30, 2002. Such funds are called "slippage" - checks issued to consumers that are not cashed."

Holy cow that's unbelievable. Canon needs to have better judgement in choosing partners. They should donate those 43 million to charity.

I had $930 coming back after purchasing the 5D and several lenses.

I got back $100 after about a month and another letter from them stating I was missing some stuff for the other rebates.

Thankfully I made copies of everything.
I called them up and told them I have copies and I can fax them over.

They promptly changed their minds about the missing items...and gave me the rest of the rebates. I made sure that I took down some kind of reference number before I hung up with them.

Several weeks later, I got the rest of my money.

This method seems to have worked for a lot of folks here.

Call them up, tell them you have copies and you can fax them/email them. See what they say...

You are not alone. We have many members in this club. The reason canon can't hear us or see us is obvious, but I am sure I can't say it here. The only cure for canon is to get a hold of both of their ears at the same time and pull down. They have lost face over this. I thought that was very important in Japan. canon not capitilized for a reason. I love my stuff, it is just doing business with them that, put kindly, could be more pleasant.

the rebates come from canon, not young america.

rebates are not a gift. they are part of the agreement when you buy certain canon products.

the middleman might be incompetent but rest assured canon is the problem here.
