OK..

I know I want a pelican case or similar hard case with dividers, dont care about with or with out wheels.

But I want it large enough to store all the equipment in my signature and then some, I hear the 1600 is very popular but is it big enough?

Please give me your suggestions as I want an air and water tight hard case to store my equipment.

I have the 1510 with dividers. It holds my 5D, 50 f1.4, 24-105 f4, 70-200 f2.8, 100-400, 580EX, 580EX II, filters, remote cord, off camera cord ,8 CF cards and some batteries. I don't want to haul much more around than that in one case.

I LOVE my 1510 with dividers!! I also have an accessory bag that screws into the lid that holds everything but lenses and bodies.

My gear is too heavy to cart on my back or over my shoulder.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

The 1510 is the biggest you can take on a plane, if not, the 1660 is a monster

You should consider the 1620 with dividers, read a review here - http://www.the-digital-picture.com …620-Hard-Case-Review.aspx (external link)

Just one point of note: while the 1510 is just under the size allowance for carry-on baggage, it also weighs 6kg unladen.

A lot of airlines (most?) limit carry-on baggage to a maximum of 7kg, so you can't put much in it before it could be rejected anyway, unfortunately.

I have carried my 1510 fully loaded onto planes on both of the last two trips to Africa. They looked inside, but never weighed it.

i would recommend 1600 series since it will give you a bit more room for the future. 1510 is an excellent choice but 100-400 and 70-200 already takes half of the case. :)

I've had carry-on weighed a few times, but not regularly.

I suppose what I was saying is that there's little point in getting a 1510 specifically because it's airline legal if there's no guarantee it won't get weighed and rejected anyway. Size is only one criteria that governs whether it'll be let onboard.

One of my nightmares is to get to the airport gate and then be told I can't take my carry-on bag full of lenses/etc on the plane :(

The 1600 series cases have tons of room...but they also take up a ton of room. For a travel case...the 1510 is a lot handier. I use my 1650 mainly for storage purposes. I do travel with it in my RV...but it is really too big to travel well in a car.

1510 is the way to go with your kit and will give you a little bit of breathing space to grow.

I use a 1560 (picture below) which gets a huge amount of kit in there - its less of a leap up to the 16XX series of Pelicases. The pic shows most of my kit - with a small amount of thought I could easily get another 2 smaller lenses in there and a flash too.
