After months of debating buying a photo printer, I saw Buy.com selling the Canon ip6700d for around $105… So I bought it.
I also ordered some Ilford Pearl paper from B&H (I like the looks of Pearl over Matte or Glossy)

After un-packaging the hardware and getting all the software installed here are my observations:

The hardware is solid – this printer doesn’t feel like some toy, it feels like a tool. Mind you, this is my first photo printer – but it seems beefier than the printers I see at Office Depot.
The software is very Canon paper biased. Luckily, my Ilford paper came with instructions of what paper setting to use and what colors to adjust to get the best color.
After downloading the ICC profile from Ilford for my paper/printer combination, I followed their instructions for printing from Adobe Photoshop CS2 and my prints turned out quite well.
I have printed 2x 8.5”x11” and about 6x 4x6’s (some borderless, some bordered) and they all look great.
4x6’s print mighty fast! Like – WOW!

I consider this purchase a success….

Awesome! Good for you...

I have a small question. I am using the ip4300 which is superfast and it prints good. Of course, after several test prints (wasting paper, ink, and my time), I could finally get a nice pic. My question is this:

I am using canon paper and printer, why does the print out still comes out different from the screen. Only when I print from the Lab, it comes out really hot! Really nice!

I guess I would go ahead and invest in one of those dye sublimation!! :(:(

Ahh... Another happy Canon printer customer.

I switched over to Canon printers about three years ago.

I've tried them all. From Okidata to Epson, to HP, back to Epson. They just didn't last. I would get about two to three years out of a printer, and then it would start to screw up.

I also despise HP printers. Why? Because when you buy an HP printer, they overload your hard disk with so much software crap, that it is unbelievable. They also put a program on that is constantly monitoring the HP web site for new updates to your existing software. The bad thing is, and I've seen this before, it will download the software, and then tell you it's available. Even if the software has bugs in it. Bottom line was, when you tried to uninstall the printer, and then re-installed the printer with the original software, you couldn't do it, unless you were computer saavy enough to go in and mess with the registry, mess with hidden files, blah blah blah. So bad, that even the Geek Squad AND HP TECH SUPPORT (very poor) didn't have a clue on how to fix it. Screw that. Not to mention the ink you go through with the HP, AND the Epson.

I first got the Canon MP780 all-in-one printer, for my home office, and was delightfully surprised with all the capabilities that it afforded. I was really surprised at the quality of the Color prints. I then decided I wanted a wide format printer, so I looked into the i9900. I started using Ilford paper, and printed out of CS2. 13x19" prints that came out like they would had I had a lab do them.

So, I'm happy to hear that your happy with your purchase. Can you tell? LOL.

Step back please... I'm armed with a camera...
