I know, I know...reselleratings.com.

I have read the horror stories, seen plenty of posts about them, and did a search for older posts....but,

It seems like the scam is the add ons. Batteries, straps, lens covers, etc...

I'm looking for a body only. I could care less about everything else. Has anyone done this with Broadway Photo? Anyone??????

There has to be some people that have purchased stuff from them w/o the headaches. They have the lowest prices on bodies that I have seen. I have had bad luck buying used lenses and want some type of warranty (however slight).

I bought my 30D from them about a year ago. I didn't know any better. This was my first DSLR.

Their prices were excellent and in my opinion, they package their items better than B&H and adorama.

It really ticked me off when they woke me up at 6am Pacific to 'verify' my order. I spoke to some street huslter who spoke very quickly and made up lies about everything to try to get me to buy filters, batteries, and CF cards.

"Your lens is going to have lots of flaring if you dont get this special UV filter with it."
"Thanks, but I think i'll wait out and get it else where"
"You can't get the filter elsewhere. It uses a 58.5 mm filter, which is only sold by us"
"I'll take my chances"

"Your 30D requires special CF cards formatted by Canon. We're running a special right now on CF cards: 2gig card for 190 dollars. They usually sell for right around 300."
"No thanks"

"You'll want to get extra batteries. Because the 30D has such a big screen, you'll only be able to get about 100 shots per battery"

I would never do business with them ever again. Waiting to see if my package would get here was very nerve racking.

You denied all the 'add ons' and still received your item? How long did that take? Must have been lucky, cant say I've heard of someone actually getting their item

I was actually in their store when I was on my honeymoon in NYC. Think old-but-well-stocked camera shop.

A few years later, and before the web was big, I found that they seemed to have the best price on a new 70-200mm 2.8 lens. I ordered it, had it send overnight to my job and everything worked out.

Yes it was only one big ticket item but I didn't have any problem. Now Abe's of Maine.... :(

I would bet that if you oder online they will call you and then try to sell you the extra items. If you say no thanks, then the camera will suddenly become back order and make take about 6 weeks or more to come in. Of course if you wait, you're order will never be shipped.

Meanwhile some scam artist will have your cc no. and your address and phone number.

Order at your own risk, your thoughts on how can all purchases be bad is why they stay in business. Good luck.

https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=292688

You buy the hamburger at the convenient and legitimate looking drive-through.

They call you out of your car into the fast food joint to confirm your .99 hamburger purchase. This should be your first clue...

While they have you at the counter, they conveniently remind you that in order to eat the hamburger, you need the bun and condiments.

You say, "What!? Those are included in a hamburger purchase, it is the way they are made".

They say "who knows better what is included, us or you? Do you want the buns for $2.99, the condiments for $1.99? And right now there is a special on the pickle for $.49".

You say "no, you will just take the hamburger and buy your own buns and condiments".

They say, "oops, somebody just sold that hamburger, it is no longer available, would you like one of the other available specials?".

You say "no" and stand at the counter for 3 hours to get your .99 refund back and disgustedly leave.

And this will have to get moved to the Market Watch forum, countdown 10, 9, ....

It's all about the bottom line. The Pop Photo needs to sell ads to make money. There are morons out there who doesn't know any better and buys all the add-ons from these crooks. As long as the magazine gets their advertising money, they don't care where it comes from.

Whats funny and sad about Pop photos "check mark ratings and other mags allwoing these hoodlums to tar and feather there readers is this..

Magazines in general now have a harder time staying relevant Vs. the internet.
Here people can find good solid info immediately, (see how long it takes for a paper publication to get a review of the MkIII out)

Everytime a reader buys from Boradway or A&M and gtrs burned based on ther e"check rating".. and evey time said reader finds out they could have gone to ressler ratings to see the REAL scoop as opposed to what Pop Photo told them, or that they could have come here or Luminous Landscape to read a review of the 40D 6 ,months before Pop Photo finally got around to it,. (seriously I got my 20D in August 2004, the review for it was in Pop Photo Jan 2005)
every time that Pop Photo does there readers this disservice they are risking.. nay almost guaranteeing that they will lose that reader for life.

This is a HUGE dis service to there readers.
And that the magazines can't seem to draw this connection.. and wonder where there circulation is going... ?

As always short sighted thinking like this in the long run hurts there "bottom line"
