as I noted in the other thread, I think the pics are real, not sure about the specs that have been going around. Did anyone else notice how the leftmost digit in the ISO can spell A? I feel auto iso coming ;)

Nice observation...though it seems like it would still need another digit to disply A (iso speed) if it required a setting over 999. though I guess it could simply dislplay "AISO" and possibly display the speed selected by the camera in the vewfinder. Doesn't seem like "AUTO" is a possibility since there would no way to make a "T" from the displayed 3rd segment. It is however, interesting that the left hand digit is not shown as a full "8" digit.

All I'm trying to say that 2mp +, 1.25 FPS increase, a slightly bigger lcd, and live view aren't reasons for most people to sell their 30D and buy this thing. How many here wouldn't trade Live view for better weather sealing?
Does "sensor clean" work well? I read an article a while ago comparing all the dust removing DSLR's including the xti (excluding MkIII) and they said that it was pretty much useless.

canon wants you to go from a 30D to the next 5D... this body is for people switching over to dSLR and canon customers upgrading from Rebels or the 10D.

the feature set -- especially if 6.25fps -- would generate alot of press and buzzkill the more expensive D200.

weather sealing is silly considering EF-S lenses aren't sealed and pros aren't going to be dealing with this camera when the 1D is all this (1.3x crop) and more.

I have a small problem with one of this photo of 40D.
There is a difference between photo of top lcd display 40D and diagram of this dispaly.
On diagram there is a extra box for metering mode (box with a dop inside). On the photo of 40D there is no box.
See: http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/Canon_40D.html (external link) to comaper photo and diagram.
So diagram might be fake.
What do You think??

Same setup as my 20D, no 'box' on the top LCD, but when you click it on, it shows up and shows the metering mode, almost positive my 5D was the same

Are all of those things that you mentioned improvements? certainly.

But wouldn't it have been better if they introduced a new AF system (more sensors or cross type sensors) and 6400 ISO?

Tell me you wouldn't trade 6400 ISO and a better AF (not implying that the current AF is bad) for at least 5 of those things you mentioned above.

Listen, for all we know we are debating over a really well done PS picture of a 30D. LOL :)

I hope the specs are BS and we get a couple of nice surpises... :p

I more or less agree with you but I'm using a 20D. If I had a 30D I would be less inclined to upgrade.

I think a usable 6400 ISO would be awesome but it may well be the case that 3200 images will be much improved over the 30D. I think it's acknowledged that the 1D III has exceptional quality at 3200 so if they somewhat approach that in the 40D I'll be pleased. Right now I reluctantly use 1600 and avoid 3200 if possible so one more stop would be great. Will it happen? I don't know.

I would also like a better AF system and would not complain if it gets it but I also like the supposed increase in fps (in fact I predicted that the 40D would be 6-8 fps). I like the ISO in viewfinder and the preset modes. The other stuff, like 3'' lcd, and live view are nice. One thing I hope it gets is auto ISO; not sure if it was mentioned or not.

Anyway, I am pretty happy with the changes,(if they pan out) if that is all there will be and anything else is icing on the cake.

I don't agree. The 5D is not an upgrade to the 30D it is in a different class for the most part. It is a side step. They generally have different purposes. I myself, and I assume many others, want or have a 5D and use it to compliment their 20D, 30D or 1D markII/markIII.

Auto could easily be spelled out with a capital "A" and lower case "u", "t", and "o".

For people waiting for leaps and bounds, it's not going to happen until the next 'breakthrough' happens.
The pixel race is cooling down, and so are zany crazy features. I would expect incremental improvements.
I need a 2nd body, so this is tempting...I love the C1-C3 buttons, I could really use that.
So it's been an internal battle of the 5D (whatever is current), and the 40D, for another body.

You are kidding right? You don't think pro's use the 20/30D?? Dream on... They go for about 1/3 or less of the price of 1 series bodies that not all pro's need the features off.

I really don't agree with the assessment that Canon wants the 30D people to upgrade to a 5D! I expect those folks to upgrade to the 40D. Same line, same 1.6X. I used to want to move to the 5D but realized it wasn't an upgrade but a sidestep. I would gain very little IQ and lose the long lens effect and I couldn't stand that with my 100-400. So, I'm going to use my money for the 40D and a new lens hopefully. That will be a step up for me!

I'll be first in line for the 40D if I can get there but doubt that I can!

For what it is worth I think the 40d will be a nice upgrade from my 300 dinosaur. Wow, to have new camera again. :D
