Bush bashing

I was asked to try and get some more barklouse pics and used their recommended technique of tapping a bush with a net under the leaves.
Not suggesting everyone does this but it is non destructive and all the bugs either flew off or were shaken back on the bush (lots of spiders)

im not usually a fan of bugs. but i like 4 the best.

Just shows you what's out there if you know where to look.

That micro moth doesn't half look indignant! Think it's my favourite as the net is not so obvious, though #1 comes a close second.

Isn't that how they harvest olives by shaking the trees? Some nice wasps there Brian.

Not surprisingly, given the size of these tiny insects, I think you just missed focus on the head of number 1. I like the moth best.

I like the fourth one the best as well. Little guy just giving you some big attitude.

Just goes to show the more you look the more you see.

Excellent shots/captures, I'm with Eccles on this one that Moth is my favorite, knowing my luck if I were to go round bush/tree bashing I'd get a ' Widow Maker ' come & crack my skull

Thanks for the comments all - does seem to be a good way of finding some of my favourite small wasps but you can find them on the underside of leaves if you look for them. Pretty certain the 2nd barklouse is a new one for me and certainly I haven't seen the wasps #2 and #3 before.

Beating onto white sheets is standard technique for bug hunters-i'm sure i'd be overwhelmed if I tried it on the local oak saplings.Think I prefer the thrill of the chase.

A fascinating set of bug shots Brian. I would never have even guessed that #3 was a wasp.

Thanks Linda - I've got used to seeing these small parasitic wasps they come in an amazing variety of colour and shape
