Pretty pose from this little one. I have got a couple of shots previously of this particular type but I never did get an ID for it, so if someone can provide the ID please that would be great :D

Lovely detailed shot Linda, it looks like Melanostoma mellinum/scalare but it's a little difficult to tell from the side.

Lovely capture Linda- not certain but think it's Platycheirus sp.- very narrow abdomen when viewed from above as well.

Thanks Alby, really not sure whether its from the Melanastoma group, but is very similar to the Platycheirus group as mentioned by Brian. Think I might get an ID on WAB for this one as its bugging me not knowing lol.

Thanks Brian - I think you are on the right track, and as I have said above to Alby, think I will try WAB, as I really would like this one ID as I have reasonable quantities of this one around the garden.

Thanks Brian - yes, I thought the background colour really made it a very pretty pose :)

Oh wow, thanks Alby, how on earth did you find that lol.

Looks like you were probably right in the first place with the Melanostoma Scalare - it certainly looks very much like it from that pic.

I have the Baccha Elongata, only seen one but they are absolutely beautiful - dont know if you saw them when I posted these pics, but here are 2:

the Baccha Elongata is by far my fav and I do hope I get to see more in my garden.

Thanks for the links Alby, really appreciate your help.
